FMMS eyes selling 150,000 cars in 2010

Local production of the Mazda 8 MPV will begin in China in the second half of 2010.

CHANGCHUN, Jilin - FAW Mazda Motor Sales Co., (FMMS) plans to sell 150,000 cars in the Chinese market this year, according to a company statement published on its official website on January 26.

FMMS is a jointly-owned sales company of China's FAW Group Corporation, FAW Car Co., Ltd. (FAW Car) and Mazda Motor Corporation.

Currently, the Mazda 6 and Mazda 6 Ruiyi medium- to high-end sedans are produced under a technology transfer license in FAW Car's Changchun plant. According to the statement, the company will also start local production of the Mazda 6 Ruiyi Coupe in the first half of 2010 and the Mazda 8 MPV in the second half.

FMMS also distributes the imported Mazda 5 MPV, CX-7 SUV and MX-5 Coupe in China. It plans to expand its dealerships to more than 160 to boost sales this year.

FMMS sold 98,739 Mazda 6 and Mazda 6 Ruiyi sedans in 2009, up 41.47 percent year-on-year, according to CBU-Autostats
